The Gift of Graciousness

When my oldest two children were quite young, I was a struggling single mom, whose paycheck barely made ends meet. For Christmas one year, we made construction paper chains to decorate the Christmas tree, and I cut a star out of cardboard and covered it in aluminum foil for the top of the tree. I couldn’t afford to give my kids much for Christmas, just a few practical things, and one toy a piece. My then six-year-old son unwrapped one of his gifts, and I said, “I know undershirts aren’t a very exciting present to get.” He just beamed at me and exclaimed, “but thanks, Mom, I really needed these!” I’ve never forgotten that lovely gift of graciousness from a little boy.
